9,593 beds in 28 hotels – making Austria Trend Hotels the largest hotel group in Austria. With a total of 16 hotels and an imperial suite at Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna is our core market. Further hotels are located in the provincial capitals Salzburg, Graz, Linz and Innsbruck, as well as in Slovakia and Slovenia. We also operate three leisure hotels in Tyrol. This portfolio is constantly being expanded and optimized. Investments totaling €40 million are planned for existing hotels in the coming years. 


Hotel division on steady growth trajectory

In the 2018 financial year, it was possible to increase the number of overnights by 3.2% to around 2.3 million. During the same period, revenues rose by 8.7% to €169.1 million. Based on a stable occupancy rate, RevPAR also increased by 5.2%. This positive development was the result of an ongoing trend in the direction of high-end city trips and additional demand in connection with the EU Council Presidency of Austria and the rising popularity of Vienna as a venue for congresses. 

The quality of service is decisive

These encouraging results were also attributable to sound cost management and the implementation of quality improvements at our hotels. More than €15 million has been invested in new furnishings and equipment at our hotels in recent years. A training campaign for personnel was also started and strict quality management targets pursued. The high quality level of our services is being appropriately rewarded by our guests and is having a positive impact on our results.

The strategic direction: growth

The acquisition of the Austria Trend Hotel Zoo Wien in December 2017 is part of our comprehensive growth strategy in the hotels division. The main focus of expanding our portfolio is on city hotels in our core market, Vienna. Acquisitions in the remainder of Austria and neighboring countries are also conceivable, either in the form of new building projects or the takeover of smaller hotel groups. This strategy will ensure that the hotels division remains the main growth driver of the Verkehrsbüro Group in the coming years. 

Young, smart and trendy

The Verkehrsbüro has a foothold in the budget hotels segment through its joint venture Motel One. ‘Lots of design for little money’ is the motto of these six hotels in Vienna and Salzburg. Besides its established brands Austria Trend Hotels and Motel One, Verkehrsbüro Hotellerie GmbH is also working to develop new brand concepts with the aim of conveying informality, simplicity and hospitality. 

Radisson Blu cooperation expanded

The franchise-based cooperation with Radisson Blu was also expanded in the 2018 financial year. Following the start of our cooperation with the Radisson Blu Hotel Altstadt in Salzburg in 2001, the Radisson Blu Park Royal Palace Hotel in Vienna was added in January 2018. Radisson Blu is an attractive hotel brand which is particularly well established among oversea guests. This is an excellent means of addressing guests from the US and from the fast-growing Chinese market.
